A draconian new law, requiring clubs and venues to fill out a form known as 'Form 696' asks them to detail the type of music played and the most likely ethnic make up of the crowd. It is being used by the police to cancel, shut down and police club nights in London which can easily be seen as discrimination against urban music and especially the black music scene in London. I call bullshit!

The form requires the address and name of every performer (and their aliases) making it nigh on impossible to have open mic nights, freestyles and other inclusive/open forms of music.]

Noise Limiters!!
It has been brought to our attention that new noise legislation is about to be introduced that is likely to virtually destroy live music in the UK.
The Government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws requiring anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment licence must have a noise control device fitted to the venue.
This will be the final nail in the coffin for pretty much all entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices cut the power off is ridiculously low. In our experience any venue that has one in cannot have any electronic music as the power is constantly being cut mid song - and even loud applause aat the end of a song can cut it. Venues are suffering enough as it is without being forced to go to the expense of fitting one of these damned things. Noise limiters are a menace to live music, and we expect that thisis the bright ideaofsome unelectedsuit in Brussels that has never been to a gig in their lives.

This arrived in my inbox this morning. If true then it really must be opposed. I have personal experience of these damned Db meters from my days as a FOH engineer. At several venues where these were fitted, bands were unable to play as during the sound check, the un amplified crack of the snare drum shut off all power to the stage.

Hercules and the Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
Guess whose voice - beautiful it is, beautiful.
Fake Blood - Mars
Ooh, a very VERY cool track that is tearing it up for all the youngsters out there. That's right - YOUR CHILDREN are listening to this music.
Surkin - Kid Gloves (Bobmo Remix)
You may not believe it, but this tune is not from the early 90's but is almost brand spanking new

WARNING: Contains rude words!!!
Sung by the angel-voiced Mary Mitchell in Milos Forman's 1971 film Taking Off:
You can fuck the lilies and the roses too.
You can fuck the maidens who swear they’ve never been screwed.
You can fuck the Russians and the English too.
You can fuck the Germans and every pushy Jew.
Fuck the Queens.
Fuck the Kings.
Fuck the boys with the very small dings.
Fuck the birds, fuck the pigs, fuck the everything with a thorny twig.
You can fuck the Astros and all nurses in white.
You should fuck the uglies just to be kind and polite.
You can fuck the Moon and June and the Sea.
But before you fuck them first you must fuck me.
Cheers, Tom.

Lovely, quirky Captain Beefheart song, with perhaps the best recorded whistle ever:
Cheers, Tom.

Seeing as today is Chritsmas Day in Russia, here is Leonid Borisovich Kogan (November 17, 1924 - December 17, 1982), playing Paganini´s Cantabile.

The Be Good Tanyas may not really be old enough for posting in this group, but I quite like them.

A song for our times? Best played very very loud, if at all. New Model Army.

The Hanoi Conservatory. I'm afraid I have no idea who the soloist is.

Those of us who get a little misty eyed as we hear the massed voices of the England fans cheering on their team just before kick-off with a rousing and unslurred rendition of the National Anthem, especially during games against Germany, might find it interesting to have a little listen to this one.
