They are both good versions, in very different genres. And as I've said many a time, it's the hallmark of a good song that it can be done in different styles and still work well. And I think Phil Lynott sings it with far more feeling that the Dubliners' singer does.

Really like both versions...I saw Thin Lizzie once in Lewisham, South London. I was very young, needless to say!

I'm not sure I understand the question, but the guitar playing on the Thin Lizzie version beats any other version hands down. Ain't it a shame the camera-operators had no idea who was playing lead, and kept giving close-ups of the rhythm and bass guitars...
