Frank Zappa is known for being an astonishing guitarist, and he personally trained Steve Vai for stardom. He is also known as a composer of avant garde music, and some of his works have genuinely pushed forward the boundaries of music. But he was (rest his soul) also a great band-leader and even when not performing his own music, he lead his band to great heights of performance. Here, he plays lead and leads his band in a mainstay of their live sets for quite a few years, the Allman Brothers song Whipping Post. fabulous performance, and a typically peculiar Frank solo by him.
Cheers, Tom.

Only just got round to reading/listening to this post and I have to say,"BUGGER ME".
I've known the song since it was first released by the Allman Bros in the late 60's, or was it early 70's but especially on their 'Live at the Filmore East', which I had on vinyl, then CD and now in the latest incarnation when it also has all the live concert stuff from 'Eat a Peach'.
But Frank Zappa, bloody hell! The only Zappa I ever had was 'Hot Rats' but I can see I'll have to investigate a little more.
Cheers for the education.
