Sounds like it was recorded in a bucket.
I remember a cover from the 70s when I was a kid. Tubular bells were involved.. can't remember the name of the band though. -

It's shocking how badly that clip has aged! The music is fairly standard for the time: a strong beat with a hint of psychedelia, very Beatles. But that film just looks hideous!
