Nothing but acoustic guitar and voice, but mesmerizing. This original is even more moving than Liz Fraser's version with This Mortal Coil.
Cheers, Tom.

Tim Buckley's voice sends a genuine shiver down my spine, he's so good. His son Jeff's version of Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah is even more stunning. Have you heard that? If I ever managed the impossible task of selecting my 8 desert island discs, that would possibly be on it. It actually made me cry the first time I heard it, and not much does that to me.

Oh, lots of songs make me cry and Ray sheds tears over some songs as well...
Leonard Cohen always makes me cry....Kathleen Ferrier can reduce us to tears with the beauty of her voice...some old blues can too...oh, heck, there's lots of music that makes both of us cry...HLOL...no shame in crying when moved...GBHs
I've just posted Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. I'm a little moist around the eyes again now as a result...

Great song. Great voice.
As good, if not better, than the Cocteau Twins version.
Great guitarist too obviously.
I am the world's biggest Liz Fraser fan, but Tim Buckley's acoustic version of his own song blows the Cocteau Twins (This Mortal Coil really) version out of the water.
He was indeed a stunning guitarist as well as vocalist and songwriter. I can't even work out the intro he plays to that song, never mind the rest of it. Did you see him on The Old Grey Whistle Test:

I think Robert Plant does a very good rendition of this, better than This Mortal Coil which I have and enjoy, but is somehow clinical compared to Robert's version but then I am biased ![]()
Plant is a fine singer, surely no-one would argue with that. But some songs suit his voice perfectly and some don't. To my mind, he is perfectly suited to ripping off those old blues records that Led Zeppelin did so beautifully and effectively. I would strongly recommend some Fred McDowell to you, as it shows where Zep got their sound from better than anything else could.

I confess, I am at a loss as to why you just quoted that Nick Drake lyric to me. Would you care to explain?
