In my opinion one of the greatest RnB tracks ever, and an opening riff that is in serious competition to be the best ever. Sample used by Dilated Peoples.

It was played by Steve Cropper, I just discovered. Great session guitarist for Stax, he played the lead on that HUGE song Green Onions, and lots of other great songs too. I knew it had to be a pretty major guitarist! That explains the Hendrix influence too.
Cheers, Tom.-

Yeah, Booker T & The MGs, a whole lotta Stax stuff is forgotten it seems, everyone goes on about Motown, but Stax had some seriously talented musicians on side.

That's a classic RnB track, alright. You might be right that Dilated People's sampled it, but the riff is very VERY post-Hendrix, and I note that original track came out in 1968 a years after Hendrix's first album. Hendrix deserves the credit for that riff, which is so similar to one of his that it's almost astonishing. A touch Castles Made Of Sand, a Hint of Wind Cries Mary and even a smidgin of Little Wing.
Nice to hear that again, thanks for posting it. I wonder who the guitarist is on that track. Do you know, by any chance?
Tom.
