I quite like that remix but as you said, it's a completely different song, really. It doesn't really go anywhere, unfortunately and that 7+ minutes length is unjustified.

That's true, but as with a lot of remixes, they are made with a club in mind, so the 7 minutes is often to give the DJ enough to play with when mixing etc.

That's certainly true, and that's one reason why these club mixes often tend to make for slightly monotonous listening at home. They are often mixed for massive soundsystems too. Luckily, I am well endowed there!
